Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked about SubsRenewal. If your question isn't here, email support@subsrenewal.com.
Is SubsRenewal free?
Yes. The web app is free to use, with no credit card required to sign up. A paid mobile tier is planned but the web app will continue to be free.
Does SubsRenewal link to my bank account?
No. SubsRenewal never asks for your bank, card, or any financial account credentials. You add subscriptions manually, or have them auto-detected by emailing receipts to a private address (coming in v2). This is a deliberate design choice, we believe the cost of asking for your bank password is higher than the convenience it provides.
What data does SubsRenewal store about me?
Your email, optional name, your subscription list (name, cost, currency, billing cycle, category, color, next renewal date), and your preferences (notification days, budget goal, display currency, dark mode, AI provider, AI API key). All of it is exportable as CSV or JSON at any time. Account deletion removes all your data within 30 days.
Can I export my data?
Yes. From the sidebar, choose "Export data" and pick CSV (one row per subscription, opens in any spreadsheet) or JSON (full fidelity, including preferences). Both formats import back losslessly.
How do renewal reminders work?
A daily server job runs around the time you specify in your preferences. It checks each subscription, finds any renewing within your notify window (default 3 days), and emails you. The mobile companion app also delivers the same reminder as a push notification. Each reminder is recorded so you never get the same one twice for the same billing cycle.
Which currencies do you support?
Six: USD, GBP, EUR, CAD, AUD, JPY. Each subscription can be in any of these. The dashboard converts everything to your chosen display currency using static, daily-updated rates.
Can I share with my partner or family?
Not in v1. SubsRenewal is single-user per account. Multi-user household support is on the roadmap.
Is there an iOS or Android app?
Yes. A companion app is available for both platforms. Sign in with the same email and password as the web app. Push notifications are opt-in.
Does the AI feature send my data anywhere?
Only if you use it, and only to the AI provider you choose. The "Add by typing" feature sends the text you typed (e.g. "Netflix $15.99 monthly") to your selected AI provider to extract structured fields. Your subscription list, email, and other data are not sent. You can also provide your own API key (BYO) for OpenAI, Anthropic, or Groq, in which case the request is billed to you directly and never touches our account.
Can I cancel my subscription services through SubsRenewal?
No. SubsRenewal tells you what is renewing and when, but it does not contact providers on your behalf or perform cancellations. It also does not negotiate bills. Those are services other products offer (usually for a percentage of the savings). SubsRenewal is a tracker, not a negotiator.
How is SubsRenewal different from my bank's spending insights?
Banks show you what you have already been charged for. SubsRenewal reminds you before the charge happens. Banks also surface many one-off transactions; SubsRenewal focuses on recurring subscriptions only, which is a smaller, more actionable list.
Is there an API?
Not in v1. The web app's data is yours via CSV / JSON export, and the mobile app uses internal JSON endpoints that are not currently public. A public REST API is on the long-term roadmap.
